Program Director, FM Safety & Emergency Management

As a member of the Facilities Management (FM) Senior Team, the incumbent is responsible for leading and managing safety initiatives and emergency management activities. The incumbent is responsible for managing and implementing safety programs to prevent injuries and to comply with OSHA and other applicable regulatory standards. The position requires interaction with the UMD Department of Environmental Safety, Sustainability and Risk ( ESSR )and all levels of the FM organization to determine needs and program gaps, and to coordinate program implementation and systems within various FM groups.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree required.

Experience: Minimum of 10 years progressive experience that includes occupational safety & health program management as well as successful hands on experience in the development and implementation of compliance oriented programs and emergency management.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):
•Strong knowledge of OSHA / MOSH guidelines and the ability to detect and coordinate solutions to resolve health and safety hazards.
•Good working knowledge of the basic principles of construction safety, electrical safety, and industrial /facilities maintenance safety.
•Knowledge of emergency management systems and proven ability to work with others to ensure execution of emergency management plan.
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
•Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
•Ability to effectively develop and present training content in large and small settings.
•Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with all levels of management and a diverse workforce.
•Proficiency with Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint
•Ability to respond quickly and efficiently to emergency situations; to make quick, informed decisions; to demonstrate critical thinking and to remain calm in crisis situations.

Preferences:
•Desired degree discipline: safety, engineering or related field
•On-site construction safety experience
•Experience in an organization with a strong, positive safety culture
•Experience working with a union workforce
•Ability to speak Spanish

Additional Certifications:
•Certification by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals ( CSP ) or ability to sit for the exam.
•Incumbent will be required to travel to meetings, project sites, accident sites, etc.; if driving a State vehicle, must possess and maintain a valid Maryland Class “C” driver’s license or equivalent with fewer than 6 points.
•Incumbent will be required to successfully complete FEMA IS-100.he certification.
