Job Summary: Responsible for leading and managing a primarily volunteer team to support and provide Disaster Workforce engagement in an assigned geographic region.  Serves as the lead functional expert in a Red Cross Region for supporting the disaster workforce. Tailoring national program offerings for the Region and communities within the Region, providing technical expertise, training, and leading regional implementation of Disaster Workforce priorities, this position supports regional employees and volunteers in the disaster territories to build capacity in the local community for the disaster cycle. Specific functions of this position include program implementation, remote team building of employees and volunteers, and soliciting feedback from end customers.


Disaster Program Specialist – Wausau, Wisconsin
The Disaster Program Specialist is responsible for the implementation of the disaster services program in an assigned geographic territory.  The territory is based on the regional configuration.  Leads and manages a primarily volunteer team responsible for the implementation of disaster preparedness, response, and recovery programs in the local area.  Ensures the development of Disaster Leadership Volunteers in each of the program support functional areas of the disaster cycle in order to meet the needs of the territory, region, state and division. Operates as a part of the Disaster Management Cycle processes.  Responsible for local preparation, response  and recovery management as well as management of government partnerships with assigned territory.  Drivers for this work include the number of municipalities within its coverage area, the amount and complexity of program activity,  presence of significant grant funding, geography, risk, population, frequency of events, and regional structure. Performs these functions according to the guidance provided by the Disaster Program Manager; team leadership is provided by the Disaster Program Manager. This position reports directly to the Disaster Program Manager and may have a dotted line to Community Exec (s) in the territory they cover. This position may have dotted line supervision to program support functions within the Region and/or may also serve as a program support function lead within the Region. This position works closely with,  is supported by and receives technical guidance from program support functions at the regional level.

The Preparedness Lead Specialist serves as the lead functional expert in a Red Cross Region for Individual and Community Preparedness and Resilience. Tailoring national program offerings for the Region and communities within the Region, providing technical expertise, and leading local implementation of preparedness and resilience offerings, this position works through regional employees and volunteers to build prepared and resilient communities.  Specific functions of this position include acting as local community preparedness expert and advocate with community groups, elected and appointed officials; program implementation; team building; management of volunteers; and soliciting feedback from end customers.  Works to perform these functions according to the direction provided by the Prepare function at headquarters. Team leadership, supervision, and personnel development is provided by the Regional Disaster Functions/Support Director or the Regional Disaster and Program Officer.

Disaster Dispatch Coordinator II Specialist (Full-Time) – Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

The Disaster Dispatch Coordinator II Specialist coordinates and serves as a resource for daily operations of a Chapter program or service.  Acts as a liaison between program or service and its internal and external partners. Implements and coordinates the day-to-day functions that support program or service operations. Coordinates recruitment, training, support, recognition and deployment of volunteers and staff enrolled in Disaster Services Human Resources (DSHR) system. Collaborates with local governmental and community organizations to ensure effective preparedness, readiness and response outcomes during disaster lifecycle. Coordinates basic, intermediate and advanced disaster and related department courses/workshops.  Teaches as applicable.  Participates on small scale projects which require researching issues, information, data collection, and development of recommendations. Collaborates and supports staff and volunteers in coordinating department’s efforts and participation in internal and external drills/exercises.  Develops workable program or service implementation plans.  Maintains records, reports and statistical data in accordance to National and Chapter standards. Ensures completeness and accuracy of DSHR database information.  Collects preliminary client information and refers client to appropriate Red Cross and community services.  Independently resolves minor problems and issues which may impact program or service delivery or outcomes.  It is the responsibility of all Red Cross staff members to recruit, train and work with volunteers and to treat all clients, volunteers, guests, and other employees in a courteous and respectful manner at all times while maintaining a cooperative atmosphere for everyone.  It is expect that each member of the regional management team to work with a volunteer counterpart to ensure key volunteers are utilized and ensure depth within the function.  Carries out any additional assignments required to fulfill the Mission of the American Red Cross.
