The Mission of Portland’s Bureau of Development Services is to promote safety, livability, and economic vitality through efficient and collaborative application of building and development codes.

THE POSITION:

The Bureau of Development Services is actively seeking a Safety and Risk Officer I to develop and oversee the bureau's emergency preparedness and response program and risk management/safety program, including the bureau's Safety Committee and safety training.  

As a Safety and Risk Officer I, you will be responsible for researching, developing, and managing the implementation of the bureau's Emergency Response Plan, the Continuity of Operations Plan and the Safety & Loss Prevention Plan. This position is also responsible for representing the bureau at citywide and regional emergency management and loss prevention meetings and exercises; contacting management with recommendations for programs, activities and other appropriate actions; tracking activities and losses; providing education and awareness for bureau employees; purchasing related necessary materials and equipment; responding to inquiries from city, federal, regional and state offices; and providing all reports, documentation, and tracking for these programs.

The Safety and Risk Officer I is expected to carry out their responsibilities with initiative, independence and creativity, while exercising sound professional judgment and problem-solving skills.  FEMA Incident Command System (ICS) and National Incident Management System (NIMS) training desirable.
