Job Opportunity: Dept of State. Foreign Service Medical Providers. February 2019

Foreign Service Medical Providers
Now Accepting Applications
The U.S. Department of State is currently accepting applications for Foreign Service Medical Provider positions.

Healthcare is more than medicine—it’s a way to change the world. As a Foreign Service Medical Provider, you’ll discover a career combination that enables you to develop your professional skills and engage your personal interests.

You will provide quality primary and preventive medical care to U.S. diplomats and their families, supervise staff, direct health unit operations, and engage with foreign audiences which helps to promote peace and prosperity around the world. You’ll travel and explore new cultures, while creating solutions for unique healthcare challenges. Medical Providers spend about 80 percent of their careers abroad, generally in austere or remote countries and relocate every 2-4 years. You will use your family practice background to advance U.S. interests abroad, as you encounter endless opportunities to maximize your potential and elevate your career.

In return for your service as a certified Family Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant, you’ll have access to continued medical training and career development programs; health and medical coverage; federal retirement benefits; and generous paid leave. When serving overseas, you’ll receive paid housing or an appropriate housing allowance, and paid education for dependent children K through 12.

All potential applicants are strongly urged to read the entire vacancy announcement to ensure that they meet all of the requirements for this position before applying. When you are ready to begin the online application process, visit USAJOBS. Please note that the deadline to submit completed applications is March 5, 2019.

Applicants must be U.S. citizens, at least 20 years old to apply and at least 21 years old to be appointed. By law, all career candidates must be appointed to the Foreign Service prior to the month in which they reach age 60, except for preference eligible veterans. Applicants must also be available for worldwide service, and be able to obtain all required security, medical and suitability clearances.
