Job Opportunity: Ontario, Canada. Emergency Management Assistant.

Duties and Responsibilities 
 You will be part of the EOC staff and required to report to work if there is an emergency situation at the City of Mississauga. 
 The primary role of this position is to educate the public and advise the community on emergency preparedness. 
 Provide research on public education initiatives in emergency management to inform the corporate and public education strategy and utilize the information to design and implement resident, community and business outreach programs. Update and maintain relevance of all on-line emergency management media (intranet and internet) in collaboration with Communications staff including web site, Twitter and other social media platforms. 
 Coordinate the completion of a public education campaign and materials based on the HIRA (two hazards per year). Staff emergency preparedness displays for public education events throughout Mississauga. 
 Develop the annual Emergency Preparedness Week campaign and materials. 
 Consult with staff of local and area governments, schools, hospitals, and other institutions in order to develop public education campaigns/initiatives that will inform and improve resiliency of the public in the event of a natural disaster or other emergency. 
 Provide research, analytical and interpretation of data to inform education in continuity of operations planning to ensure the community emergency management program addresses how the municipality and affected business community can prepare for continuity of operations during and after a disaster. 
 Develop and/or acquire relevant preparedness public education materials based on the HIRA and maintain a relevant social media and website presence with the public on the most probable hazards. 
 Assist annually in the publication of an approved Hazard Identification Risk Assessments (HIRA) for natural, technological and man-made hazards in accordance with the definition of an emergency in the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act. 
 Provide research of data to support the revisions of enhanced plan components to include supporting plans for high risks e.g. hazardous facility, flood, severe weather, critical infrastructure etc. 
 Assists with exercises and training exercises in simulated conditions. 
 Participates in providing required support within the Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) during emergencies. 
 Develop and maintain liaisons with municipalities, region and provincial departments, and similar entities in order to assist with initiatives. 
 Prepare agenda’s, minutes and other documents as required for Committee and Working Group meetings. Assist in the development of other documents required under the Emergency Management Program. 
 Performs other duties as required. 
Skills and Qualifications 
 College Diploma or University Degree in Disaster Management, Education, Communications, Sociology or Psychology. 
 Further specialized education in the Incident Management System (IMS), combined with at least one year of experience in developing and delivering public education campaigns. 
 You have an understanding of municipal government and stakeholder responsibilities regarding emergency management, understanding of business continuity practices . 
 You possess strong research and project management skills with an ability to perform effectively in stressful situations. 
 Proficient in standard Microsoft Office applications required; SharePoint preferred. Knowledge of designing and managing databases is preferred. 
 Your written and verbal communication skills are well developed and you are able to handle multiple complex tasks concurrently. 
 Experienced using online research engines, web-meeting facilities, capable to identify and access a broad range of resources within limited time. 
 You are able to establish effective working relationships and provide quality customer service. You can work independently with minimum supervision as well as part of an Emergency Management Team. 
 Must have the ability to travel and transport informational displays and materials. 
 Moderate occasional lifting required to an approximate maximum of 30 – 40 lbs.
