Dear Rural Coalition Members and Friends,

The Winter Forum is right around the corner, and we are excited to celebrate our 40 years of collaboration with you. In anticipation of this event, we want to ensure our attendees have all the information they need to participate in our forum (For more details about the winter forum and our work, visit our website at: https://www.ruralco.org/

1) Most of our guests will be staying at the Washington Plaza Hotel (10 Thomas Circle NW, Washington D.C. 20005. Phone: 202-842-1300) for the duration of the forum. If you need assistance related to your hotel or lodging, contact Danica Kimball at
danica@ruralco.org. We will send hotel confirmation numbers in the next day or so to each delegation leader for those reserved in our Rural Coalition room block. Space is very tight in DC as there is a very large conference in town at the same time, and our RC room block is almost full, so be sure to reserve rooms if you have not by now.

2) For parking near the events of the forum, we recommend parking in the Washington Plaza. Self-Parking garage. The cost is $30 per night.  Valet parking is $35 per night. NOTE: that the Self-park garage has a 6ft clearance height, so larger vehicles will have to use Valet parking.

3) All the events in the Winter Forum will occur in downtown Washington D.C. For directions, and transportation logistics, feel free to contact Danica Kimball at
danica@ruralco.org.

Friday, Dec 14 (6 PM – 10 PM at National Press Club) —
40th Anniversary Founders Dinner at the National Press Club celebrating our 40 Years of Rural Resilience and shared work and that of our members and partners.

Our Forum Program – Our Forum program will be mostly in roundtable format with the ability for interaction and to assure participatory sharing and discussion. We believe there is like to be news on the 2018 Farm Bill just before or while we are at the Forum.  As such, we are stressing that our program timing may change so we can accommodate participation for hill staff and members of Congress whenever they may be available to share the latest Farm Bill news.

Preparing for the Forum

RC Membership – It is that time of year for RC membership renewals.  We are preparing special forum materials listing all our 40th Anniversary members. Therefore, we ask all our RC member organizations to renew their membership in time for the Forum, and no later than Dec. 7. Most memberships are due for renewal; please feel free to contact
danica@ruralco.org to confirm the date of your previous payment.

Organizational Information - We also ask each of our member groups to send us a high-quality version of your organizational logo, today if possible.

Registration – Be sure your entire delegation is registered for the forum and dinner (you can do so at:
https://www.ruralco.org/events/ ).  We have changed our payment provider, so it will not require you to have a PayPal account.  We are also adding an option for those who wish to pay at the door.  We ask you to be sure we have the correct names for each person in your delegation, so we can have name tags prepared and also, so we get an accurate meal count. If you or the members of your delegation have any dietary restrictions or preferences, or allergies, let us know at danica@ruralco.org ASAP.

Remembrances – During our forum Closing Circle on Friday, we will remember all those leaders of our many organizations who have passed on.  Please send us a one-page remembrance with a picture if possible, for leaders and members from your organization it is important for us to honor and remember.

Other Preparation – Do watch the weather reports as you prepare.  At this time of year, it is normally chilly, with rain or other precipitation possible. We will stay within a few block range for most of our forum, but warm clothing and an umbrella are always helpful.  Also, please note that for the Forum days, comfortable business clothing is fine. For the 40th Anniversary Dinner, many of our members enjoy the opportunity to wear something more dressy, but business attire is also welcome. Just be sure to bring your dancing shoes!

If Plans Change or If you Have Travel DifficultiesIf your ticket is booked through our wonderful travel agent, Jerry Feldman, please contact him immediately at
jerry.feldman@casto.com or by phone (831-426-2350 or 831-252-1573).  if you have any difficulties with travel.  In particular, if you are late for a flight be sure to reach him BEFORE YOUR DEPARTURE TIME.

If you have difficulties related to your arrival in DC, please call our office at (202) 628-7160.  If you have difficulties after hours please contact your delegation leader, or text or call Lorette at 703-624-8869 or Danica Kimball at (413)-768-8581.

Webinar Overview
Join us for a fast-paced, one-hour tour of the restyled NFIP Flood Insurance Manual.
In October, FEMA released a new, easy to use Flood Insurance Manual. FEMA designed the manual with insurance professionals and other stakeholders in mind. The newly redesigned manual aims to make flood insurance issues and NFIP processes more understandable.
Navigating the Restyled NFIP Flood Insurance Manual webinar is not intended to teach you the manual’s content. It will not discuss NFIP rules, rating methodology or coverages. Instead, the webinar will show you how to get around the new manual in order to ease the transition to it.
FEMA’s goal is to facilitate the understanding of its processes and product from the points of view of the agent, insurer, and policyholder in order to enhance reliability of service from insurance professionals to their policyholders. The new edition of the manual does not change flood insurance coverage or supersede the terms and conditions of the Standard Flood Insurance Policy (SFIP).
The NFIP Flood Insurance Manual is a resource for insurance professionals and others as they work with FEMA to close the insurance gap.
