Illinois Disaster Corps Manager – Chicago, IL

The Illinois Disaster Corps Manager is responsible providing functional expertise to the AmeriCorps Program Director, Regional Disaster Officer and Volunteer Leadership at a regional and divisional level, or may take full cycle responsibility to provide AmeriCorps service delivery programs within a defined geography under the supervision and authority of a Senior DPM or Regional Disaster Officer. To accomplish this, the Disaster Corps Manager will be responsible for the recruitment, on-boarding, training, development and leadership of Illinois Disaster Corps AmeriCorps members, as well as implementing and developing initiatives to increase Red Cross visibility through program/service delivery. Position acts as a program or service subject matter expert (SME) to staff, management, volunteers, and external partners.  The Illinois Disaster Corps Manager will accomplish this responsibility largely through the recruitment, development, operational guidance, and support of a team of trained AmeriCorps members, volunteers and partners that will stand ready to deliver/support the services of disaster preparedness, response, and recovery programs in the assigned jurisdiction. These teams will operate as part of a tiered mutual aid structure (local/regional/divisional/national), serving as the front line of support to local communities. These services include but are not limited to; response to recurrent local and state disasters (house fires, floods, etc.), capacity building for volunteer and donations management service delivery, participation in the Home Fire Campaign, and direct assistance and recovery services to those impacted by disasters.

Works to perform these functions according to the program direction provided by the Disaster Workforce Engagement function at headquarters. Team leadership, supervision, and personnel development is provided by the Regional Disaster Functions/ Support Director or the Regional Disaster and Program Officer; and may have a dotted line to the DPM or Executive Director (s) in the territory they cover.

Operates as a part of the process called Engage Volunteers and Employees which is one of the (five pillar / three core) processes of the Disaster Management Cycle. Specific functions of this position include: Workforce, training, engagement and  deployment and workforce development. Drivers for this work include: Scheduled volunteers and need for trained volunteers.
