Freedom House Pittsburgh Ambulance Service celebrated during Black History Month

“You have to act as if it were possible to radically transform the world. And you have to do it all the time.” —Angela Davis

PITTSBURGH —
As Black History Month begins, the city of Pittsburgh is honoring the legacy of the Freedom House Ambulance Service, which was founded in the Hill District in 1967.
It was the first ambulance service in the country to provide medical service to patients before they arrived at hospitals.\
Dr. Peter Safer, who invented CPR, collaborated with the Freedom House community organization to start the ambulance service, which was initially made up of 25 Black men and women.
A display honoring the Freedom House Ambulance Service is on display through Feb. 29 on the first floor of the City-County Building downtown
