CERT offers a consistent, nationwide approach to volunteer training and organization that professional responders can rely on during disaster situations, which allows them to focus on more complex tasks. Through CERT, the capabilities to prepare for, respond to and recover from disasters is built and enhanced.

Take advantage of the slight break in COVID-19 recovery as social distancing is relaxed to prepare for future pandemics, disasters, emergencies, and impacts of climate change on your community if you have started your online\virtual training in CERT (community emergency response team) organization.

Prepare for your partnerships, collaborations, coordination, and communications with other entities and local emergency management offices, and other volunteer organizations, American Red Cross (ARC) local chapter, and in the case of diaspora international members International Red Crescent\Red Cross organizations.

Prepare for and plan for worst case scenarios of climate change, vulnerabilities to water & food systems, know evacuation routes if evacuation of your homes and communities become necessity.  Plan for the worst and hope for …….

Gearing Up for the 2021 Virtual Youth Preparedness Council Summit From Alaska to Massachusetts, ten new members have been selected for FEMA’s Youth Preparedness Council (YPC). These ten new members will join five returning members this July for the three-day Youth Preparedness Council Summit. The theme for this year’s virtual event is “Equity into Everything: Building a Culture of Resilience for the Whole Community.” The Summit will highlight diversity in disaster preparedness and focus on how we can better serve the whole community through collaborative preparedness-related activities and discussion. How African American Undergraduate Students Were Impacted by the COVID-19 Pandemic A new report from the U.S. Department of Education finds that some 7.2 percent of Black undergraduates said they withdrew from their college or university during the first few months of the pandemic, more than double the rate for Whites. Another 5.6 percent of all Black undergraduates took a leave of absence, almost double the rate for Whites.

World Bank financing for COVID-19 vaccine rollout exceeds USD$4 billion for 50+ developing countries The World Bank announced that it is providing over $4 billion for the purchase and deployment of COVID-19 vaccines for 51 developing countries, half of which are in Africa. More than half of the financing comes from the International Development Association (IDA), the Bank’s fund for the world’s poorest countries, and is on grant or highly concessional terms.
