The Mayor’s Office on African Affairs (MOAA) is soliciting grant applications from qualified Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) serving the District’s African constituents - for its FY21 African Community Grant. 
The African Community Grant is intended to fund programs that provide culturally and linguistically targeted services and resources to advance the District’s African residents community
These programs should reflect the Mayor’s top priority areas, and the documented needs and priorities of the District’s African constituency.
Funding priority areas identified for FY21 are aligned with Mayor Bowser’s administration budget priorities:
  • Education
  • Jobs & Economic Development
  • Public Safety
  • Civic Engagement
  • Health & Wellness
  • Youth Engagement
  • Arts & Creative Economy
The deadline for MOAA's African Community Grant is 5:00pm on Friday, August 7, 2020.

MOAA’s African Community Grant Update: Call for Reviewers

The Mayor’s Office on African Affairs (MOAA) is seeking volunteer grant reviewers to help evaluate the grant applications for the African Community Grant Program FY21. The reviewers are expected to be neutral, qualified individuals selected for their experience in one or more of Mayor Bowser's FY21 budget priorities: Education, Jobs & Economic Development, Public Safety, Civic Engagement, Health & Wellness, Youth Engagement, and Arts & Creative Economy. 
The grant review period will take place from August 7, 2020 to August 14, 2020. This is a remote opportunity as the review will be conducted online (via zoomgrants.com).  
Requirements: 
  1. Previous grant reviewing experience with the DC or federal governments; private firms; or nonprofit organizations (preferred);
  2. Ability to evaluate and score review 3-4 proposals in a timely manner;
  3. Anticipate 20 – 30 hours for reviewing and evaluation.
  4.  Familiarity with technology.
If you intend to apply for the African Community Grant you will not be eligible to serve as a reviewer.

This is a non-paid project.

Do you know of a young leader who could help guide America’s Promise Alliance through an unprecedented time? Are they passionate about education, mental health, racial equity, or other issues that affect young people across the country? If so, we encourage you to share the opportunity with them to apply to be a leader at America’s Promise Alliance! 

WHO: We’re searching for applicants aged 18-24 who can help guide our vision for education and youth development by serving a three-year term on our Board of Directors or the Board of Trustees. Applicants from anywhere in the U.S. are invited to apply.

WHAT: America’s Promise Alliance is guided by the principle that all young people should have a voice and a role in decisions impacting their education and future. America’s Promise is currently recruiting young leaders for two leadership groups:
  • The Board of Directors supports the mission and vision of the organization and provides strategic organizational governance. Youth and adult members guide the organization towards success by ensuring ethical and legal management and adequate resources to aid its mission. 
  • The Board of Alliance Trustees is a group of over 40 leaders of national organizations across all sectors and young leaders. These trustees help shape America’s Promise Alliance’s programmatic strategies and help advise the Board of Directors on programmatic work based on the needs of the youth-serving sector. 
Through participating in annual convenings in Washington (or virtually), serving as a spokesperson and ambassador for America’s Promise, and participating in important conversations on how to improve on our mission, members of both groups have a prominent role in steering America’s Promise Alliance toward a stronger path towards working with young people, not just for them. 

WHEN: The deadline to apply is Monday, August 24, and applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
WHY: Participating on the Board of Directors or the Board of Trustees is an excellent opportunity to build professional and personal connections, enhance your resume, cultivate and hone leadership skills, and expand your knowledge of the youth-serving field.
