WFP USA welcomes eBay chief compliance officer Molly Finn to its board of directors

June 1, 2020

WASHINGTON, DC (May  28, 2020) – World Food Program USA (WFP USA) announced that it has named  Molly Finn, chief compliance officer for eBay, Inc., to its distinguished board of directors. As a board member, Ms. Finn  will support World Food Program USA’s advocacy and fundraising on behalf of the United Nations World Food  Programme  (WFP).

“We are thrilled to welcome Molly to our board. She brings tremendous value, expertise and leadership to our organization, and will be instrumental in helping us extend our impact at World Food Program USA,” said Randy Russell, World Food Program USA board chairman. “As we work to support the U.N. World Food Programme’s mission to feed 100 million vulnerable people around the world, aligning with leaders like Molly is critical.”

Ms. Finn brings both a passion to make a difference and invaluable expertise to her work on behalf of World Food Program USA.  As the  current health pandemic  threatens to double the number of  people suffering from severe hunger worldwide, Ms. Finn’s dedication to creating a zero-hunger world is more important than ever.

“It is in a time like this, with a global pandemic creating perhaps the most drastic level of food uncertainty in recent history, that the need for a non-partisan organization committed to feeding the hungry in every corner of the world comes into sharp focus,” Ms. Finn said. “I’m honored to join Word Food Program USA’s accomplished board and to support the U.N. World Food Programme’s lifesaving mission to alleviate hunger.”

As eBay’s first chief compliance officer, Ms. Finn is responsible for compliance governance and leads teams responsible for ethics, privacy and intellectual property.  Additionally, she serves as the  executive sponsor of the eBay legal department Pro Bono Committee and spent two years  serving as  secretary to the eBay Foundation.

Building a COVID-19 Analytics Platform to Turn Clinical Data into Knowledge

The National Institutes of Health has launched a centralized, secure enclave to store and study vast amounts of medical record data from people diagnosed with coronavirus disease across the country. It is part of an effort, called the National COVID Cohort Collaborative (N3C), to help scientists analyze these data to understand the disease and develop treatments. The N3C harnesses the extensive resources of the NCATS-funded Clinical and Translational Sciences Awards (CTSA) Program and its Center for Data to Health (CD2H), with overall stewardship from NCATS.
The initiative will create an analytics platform to systematically collect clinical, laboratory and diagnostic data from health care provider organizations nationwide. It will then harmonize the aggregated information into a standard format and make it available rapidly for researchers and health care providers to accelerate COVID-19 research and provide information that may improve clinical care.
There currently are 35 collaborating sites across the country. Diverse data from individuals tested for COVID-19 and related diseases are provided by institutions and organizations that execute the NCATS Data Transfer Agreement (DTA). Data access will be open to all users under a forthcoming NCATS Data Use Agreement (DUA), regardless of whether they contribute data. NCATS is taking multiple security and privacy measures such as implementing user registration, federated login, data use agreements with institutions and data use requests with users. For more details, see the N3C FAQs.

Mellon and Other Foundations Commit $1.7 Billion+ to Nonprofits Devastated by Global Pandemic

The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation announced today that it has joined forces with Doris Duke Charitable Foundation, Ford Foundation, W.K. Kellogg Foundation, and John D. & Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation in a dramatic $1.7 billion-plus commitment to shore up struggling nonprofits.

The Foundation will dedicate an additional $200 million in grantmaking – on top of its $300 million originally planned for 2020 – for emergency support to nonprofits in higher education, the arts, and humanities.

The giving helps stabilize these institutions during the interconnected crises of a global pandemic, a national economic depression, and the effects of racial injustice, and ultimately will help fortify nonprofit infrastructure and reimagined programming of nonprofits in education.
