 This free, virtual, day-long event provides an opportunity for
      communication and networking between prevention practitioners, community
      leaders, researchers and consumers in the behavioral health field. As
      part of Prevention Day, SAMHSA’s leadership will inform participants
      about SAMHSA’s prevention priorities for the coming year. Other dynamic
      speakers will discuss evidence-based preventive interventions and
      findings from the latest developments in the areas of substance use and
      misuse prevention, treatment, recovery, and mental illness.

      |  SAMHSA is accepting applications for
      the Resiliency in Communities After Stress and Trauma (ReCAST Program)
      grants. The purpose of this program is to assist high-risk youth and
      families and promote resilience and equity in communities that have
      recently faced civil unrest through implementation of
      evidence-based violence prevention and community youth
      engagement programs, as well as linkages to trauma-informed behavioral
      health services. 
 SAMHSA plans to issue 8 awards of $1,000,000 per year for up to 5 years.

      | SAMHSA is accepting applications for the
      Building Communities of Recovery (BCOR) program. The purpose of this program
      is to mobilize resources within and outside of the recovery
      community to increase the prevalence and quality of long-term recovery
      support from substance abuse and addiction.
 SAMHSA plans to issue 29 awards of $200,000 per year for up to 3 years.

      | SAMHSA is accepting
      applications for Project AWARE (Advancing Wellness and Resilience in
      Education) – State Education Agency (SEA) grants (AWARE-SEA). The purpose
      of this program is to build or expand the capacity of State Education
      Agencies, in partnership with State Mental Health Agencies (SMHAs)
      overseeing school-aged youth, and with three local education agencies
      (LEAs) to:  ·     
      Increase
      awareness of mental health issues among school-aged youth ·     
      Provide
      training for school personnel and other adults who interact with
      school-aged youth to detect and respond to mental health issues ·     
      Connect
      school-aged youth who may have behavioral health issues, including
      serious emotional disturbance (SED) or serious mental illness (SMI), and
      their families, to needed services SAMHSA plans to issue up to 34 awards of
      up to $1,800,000 per year for up to 5 years.

      | SAMHSA is accepting applications for
      State Pilot Grant Program for Treatment for Pregnant and Postpartum Women
      (PPW-PLT). The purpose of the program is to enhance flexibility in the
      use of funds designed to: (1) support family-based services for pregnant
      and postpartum women with a primary diagnosis of a substance use
      disorder, including opioid use disorders; (2) help state substance abuse
      agencies address the continuum of care, including services provided to
      pregnant and postpartum women in nonresidential-based settings; and (3)
      promote a coordinated, effective, and efficient state system managed by
      state substance abuse agencies by encouraging new approaches and models of
      service delivery.
 SAMHSA plans to issue approximately 4 awards of up to $900,000 per
      year for up to 3 years.

      | SAMHSA is accepting applications for
      Tribal Opioid Response (TOR) grants. The program aims to address the
      opioid crisis in tribal communities by increasing access to culturally
      appropriate and evidence-based treatment, including medication-assisted
      treatment (MAT) using U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved
      medications for the treatment of opioid use disorder (OUD). In addition
      to focusing on OUD, recipients may also address stimulant misuse and use
      disorders, including cocaine and methamphetamine.
 SAMHSA plans to issue approximately 150 awards for up to 2 years.

      | SAMHSA is accepting applications for the
      National Child Traumatic Stress Initiative (NCTSI) – Category II,
      Treatment and Service Adaptation (TSA) Centers (NCTSI-II). The purpose of
      the TSA Centers is to provide national expertise for specific types of
      traumatic events, population groups, and service systems, and support the
      specialized adaptation of effective evidence-based treatment and service
      approaches for communities across the nation.
 SAMHSA plans to issue up to 35 awards of up to $600,000 per year for
      up to 5 years.

      | SAMHSA is accepting applications for
      Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics (CCBHCs) Expansion Grants
      (CCBHC Expansion Grants). The purpose of this program is to increase
      access to and improve the quality of community mental and substance
      use disorder treatment services through the expansion of CCBHCs. CCBHCs
      provide person- and family-centered integrated services. The CCBHC
      Expansion grant program must provide access to services that include 24/7
      crisis intervention services for individuals with serious mental illness
      (SMI) or substance use disorders (SUD), including opioid use disorders;
      children and adolescents with serious emotional disturbance (SED); and
      individuals with co-occurring mental and substance disorders (COD).
 SAMHSA plans to issue approximately 74 awards of up to $2,000,000 per
      year for up to 2 years.

      | SAMHSA is accepting applications for
      Grants to Prevent Prescription Drug/Opioid Overdose-Related Deaths (PDO).
      The purpose of this program is to reduce the number of prescription
      drug/opioid overdose-related deaths and adverse events among individuals
      18 years of age and older by training first responders and other key
      community sectors on the prevention of prescription drug/opioid
      overdose-related deaths and implementing secondary prevention strategies,
      including the purchase and distribution of naloxone to first responders.
 SAMHSA plans to issue approximately 13 awards of up to $850,000 per year
      for up to 5 years.

      | SAMHSA is allowing flexibility for grant
      recipients affected by the loss of operational capacity and increased costs
      due to the COVID-19 crisis. These flexibilities are available during this
      emergency time period. Flexibility may be reassessed upon issuance of new
      guidance by the Office of Management and Budget post the emergency time
      period. Continue to check for updated information and resources to assist grant
      recipients during the COVID-19 emergency. |

      throughout this pandemic. We will continue to offer training for the
      entire school community (students, parents, teachers, counselors, and
      principals). This training will be bi-monthly, covering topics important
      to you as we finish out this storm together. Each session will include a
      special guest speaker, key topic information, resources, and discussion

      February 5, 2021 1:30 p.m. ET This is an interactive synchronous
      learning experience for prevention professionals. This 6-week course will
      provide the substance misuse prevention professional with policy
      skill-building focused on the first five steps of a local policy
      campaign. The goal of the course is to build competencies necessary to
      advance prevention policies at the organizational or municipal level. |

      February 9, 2021 3:00 p.m. ET Providers of all occupations are
      experiencing increased levels of on-the-job stress as they work to
      respond to the many needs of the individuals they serve during the
      COVID-19 pandemic. Acknowledging these challenges and securing
      appropriate supports are crucial to promoting the well-being of all
      providers. This training will provide attendees with detailed information
      on the impact of chronic stress and compassion fatigue as well as
      strategies to cultivate hope, compassion, and resilience. |

      where good-intentioned behavioral approaches to a social problem actually
      lead to worse effects. This presentation examines both the benefits and
      the negative unintended consequences of stigma change programs,
      considering the effects of education versus contact on the stigma of
      mental illness. |

      February 10, 2021 1:00 p.m. ET Research has shown that substance use, and
      in particular, both opioid and alcohol misuse, can increase suicide risk.
      This webinar will discuss how, and to what extent, substance use is
      connected to suicide risk. It will also cover identified evidence-based
      substance use prevention programs that also address the risk of suicide,
      and what potential opportunities for further collaborations may exist. |

      February 11, 2021 12:00 p.m. ET This webinar will discuss the impact of
      alcohol, cocaine, and amphetamine use during the COVID-19 pandemic. It will
      review the physiological effects of substance use disorders (SUD) and
      heightened susceptibility to COVID-19, and discuss the impact on the
      African American population. This session will also cover recent
      increases in alcohol sales and consumption, discuss available treatment
      options for SUD, and review myths about alcohol during the current
      pandemic. |
