Chronic
Hepatitis C Liver Disease
Understanding
complications of liver disease after cure of hepatitis C infection.
Doctors
at the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney
Diseases are conducting a study to better understand complications
that can occur after the hepatitis C virus has been cured.
Researchers want to determine why cirrhosis, liver cancer and other
liver related complications may occur after treatment.
What
the study involves:
- 12 week treatment
of hepatitis C infection
- Monitoring the
health of your liver with blood tests and liver imaging
- Liver biopsy to
assess the amount of scar tissue
- Continued
outpatient monitoring by an NIH liver physician
- There is no cost
for study-related visits, medications, or tests
- Compensation may be
provided
You
can participate if you are:
- At least 18 years
of age
- Diagnosed with
chronic hepatitis C in the last 6 months
- In good general
health
- Not infected with the
HIV virus
- Not currently pregnant
or breastfeeding
