Preparedness Orientation-Disaster Awareness for People with Disabilities

Please join the Region 2 National
Preparedness Division, in collaboration with the PR Disability Integration
Section Lead, for a workshop on Emergency Preparedness for People with
Disabilities and others with Access and Functional Needs. The discussion
will focus on basic tools to be prepared in the event of a natural or
man-made disaster.
This workshop aims to support
and orient people with disabilities, their families, caregivers and the
general public on the need to prepare for all hazards. It also includes
special financial considerations and guidance to identify type of risks in
your community. Emergency Managers will learn how to better interact, and
the necessary etiquette to support people with disabilities during
emergencies.
Who
should attend? Whole community, individuals with
disabilities and other with access and functional needs, caregivers, Local,
State and Federal Emergency Managers, CERT Program Leads, Department of
Health, and NGO’s.

Orientación de Preparación para
Emergencias-Concientización acerca de Desastres Para Personas con
Discapacidades
Jueves, 25 de Mayo 1:00 pm – 2:00 PM ET
La División de Preparación Nacional de la
Región 2, en colaboración con el Asesor Principal de Integración de
Discapacitados de PR, le invita a participar en un taller sobre preparación
ante emergencias para personas con discapacidad y otras personas con
necesidades funcionales y de acceso. El debate se centrará en las
herramientas básicas para estar preparados en caso de catástrofe natural o
provocada por el hombre.
El taller tiene como objetivo
apoyar y orientar a las personas con discapacidad, sus familias, cuidadores
y público en general sobre la necesidad de prepararse para todo tipo de
riesgos. Incluye además aspectos financieros a considerar, así como
orientación para identificar tipos de riesgos en su comunidad. Los
Manejadores de Emergencias tendrán la oportunidad de familiarizarse con el
protocolo necesario para apoyar a las personas con discapacidades durante
emergencias.
¿Quién
debería asistir? Toda la comunidad, personas con
discapacidades y con otras necesidades funcionales y de acceso, sus
cuidadores, manejadores de emergencias, representantes de los gobiernos
estatales y federales, miembros CERT, personal del Departamentos de Salud y
ONGs.

Disability
Etiquette, Awareness, Sensitivity and Terminology Panel Discussion
Thursday, June 22nd from 1:00 PM - 2:30 PM ET

Please join the Region 2 National
Preparedness Division for a panel discussion on disability etiquette,
awareness, sensitivity and terminology.
This session will explore and
address disability etiquette, awareness, sensitivity, and terminology
issues and best practices. We have identified a strong need for a dialogue
on these topics based on requests from our nationwide audience, which
includes emergency managers, first responders, public health officials,
disability related organizations, and social service organizations, as well
as other stakeholders. The webinar will feature a great panel of subject
matter experts including June Kailes, internationally recognized Disability
Policy Consultant, Therése Brzezinski, Director of Planning and Public
Policy L.I. Center for Independent Living and Joe Zesski from the Northeast
ADA Center.
Who
should attend? Emergency Managers, Public
Health Officials, Whole community partners, Volunteer and faith-based
organizations, Local, State, Tribal and Federal government.
