Our Narrative. Whose reading the data? Follow the money. ICARP October Newsletter

Three items of significance for California members, and for members in other States.  California gives some explanation of ‘resiliency’ and even disaster zones that you will not find ANY OTHER jurisdiction providing an explanation.
  1. Explore the RAP-Map: An Inventory of City and County Adaptation Plans
  2. California’s Fifth Climate Change Assessment's Regional Workshops Series Follow Up
  3. Grants and Funding

We always make the point that the data has been collected and reiterated by new data collection.  The data from the past and interpretations are there, it’s a matter of WHO’S READING THE DATA.

Diversity and Inclusion has it’s place as a distraction, but equity of communities are an entirely different story.

How is your community assessed?    Read and interpret the data in YOUR\OUR NARRATIVE.

Oh, BTW

  • Follow the money, funding, and budgets.
  • How many admin levels before the funding opportunity reaches your community?
  • Did California have a budget surplus from the previous year(s) ???

View the Summary of Public Comments: Workshops and Listening Sessions and Draft Guidelines in the Resources section of the Extreme Heat and Community Resilience Grant’s webpage. Email feedback on the draft guidelines to icarp.grants@opr.ca.gov. Due date for feedback is December 7, 2024.

Explore the RAP-Map: An Inventory of City and County Adaptation Plans

ICARP's Climate Services team recently updated the ResilientCA Adaptation Planning Map (RAP-Map) to fill remaining gaps in city adaptation planning data. Explore the now completed RAP-Map to view and download local city and county adaptation planning information from across California, including links to vulnerability assessments; adaptation plans; general plans; local hazard mitigation plans; and other related documents reviewed by Climate Services staff between 2021 and 2023.

Note: The RAP-Map only includes plans that cover multiple climate impacts and sectors for individual cities and counties. It does not include sector, region, or topic-specific plans such as sea level rise adaptation plans, extreme heat action plans, regional adaptation plans, transportation plans, etc. For an inventory of sea level rise planning efforts along the California Coast, see the California Coastal Adaptation Planning Inventory.

California’s Fifth Climate Change Assessment's Regional Workshops Series Follow Up

Thank you to everyone who participated in our Regional Workshop Series so far! Since July, we have held 8 in-person regional workshops and 3 virtual workshops to connect with communities across the state. Your knowledge, perspectives, and thoughtful input has been invaluable, and we truly appreciate the time you took to be part of this process.

Going forward, we will be bringing together author teams for each of the Fifth Assessment regions and sharing the feedback heard throughout the workshops to begin developing the Regional Synthesis Reports. This feedback will also be used to inform the Tribal Research Program, Vulnerable Communities Platform, and State Adaptation Strategy.

Regional Report Author Teams: There are many ways to be involved in the development of the Regional Synthesis Reports, including as a coordinating lead author, author, contributing expert, advisor, or other supportive role. The author teams will bring together diverse expertise to uplift the best available science and knowledge to meet the needs and contexts of each Assessment region. If you’re interested in serving as an author, contributing expert, advisor, or other supportive role, please fill the out the Fifth Assessment Synthesis Report Author Team Interest Form.

Vulnerable Communities Platform: We have compiled the recommendations shared during the workshops and will be integrating them into the development of the finished platform over the next few months. To keep up to date on our progress and future opportunities for engagement, please sign up for the Vulnerable Communities Platform mailing list. Please email ankitha.doddanari@opr.ca.gov with any questions or comments.

Save the Date! 2024 Catalyst Conference: Progress in Place

The California Strategic Growth Council is pleased to announce it will host the Catalyst Conference, themed Progress in Place, in Sacramento for the second year in a row. Building on last year’s efforts, “Progress in Place: From Power Building to Project Implementation” promotes community and local capacity building while preparing for challenges associated with project development and implementation. The event’s agenda matches the urgency to center and support disinvested communities with the speed at which federal and state funds are being distributed. The 2024 event will convene frontline leaders, researchers, funders, and government partners currently leading this work to learn from one another, prioritize areas of future focus, advance projects, and celebrate transformation already underway.
