SUMMARY:
The Emergency Management Specialist is an
enthusiastic and motivated individual with excellent interpersonal,
communication, critical thinking skills, and excellent customer service
skills. The Emergency Management Specialist provides support of preparedness
planning, exercises, emergency response, and technical functions for the
Office of Emergency Management and the University community.
In addition, the Specialist supports emergency
operations by assisting with the coordination of campus-level response
activities, so must be available for 24-hour on-call response to perform
emergency management functions and related duties.

partnership with university stakeholders.
SUPERVISORY AUTHORITY:
Responsible for program support functions of the Office of Emergency
Management for projects and program efforts. Formally plans and coordinates
the work of these functions.
NATURE AND SCOPE:
Internal contacts include a variety of university
officials, departments, and individuals across the University community.
Occasional external contacts include local partners, partnering universities
and colleges, as well as agencies and various contacts from educational
organizations.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
The Emergency Management Specialist leads and
provides planning and preparedness support for a variety of projects which
may involve:
- Developing,
implementing, and evaluating outreach and education programs to enhance
preparedness and resilience across the University
- Developing,
revising, and operationalizing various emergency plans, including the
University Emergency Operations Plan and Continuity of Operations (COOP)
Plan
- Developing,
implementing, and evaluating emergency preparedness-related training and
exercise activities
- Assisting
in the after-action evaluation and improvement planning process
- Providing
support to logistical and operational preparedness activities, including
tasks related to emergency communications and readiness of the
University Emergency Operations Center (EOC)
- Staffing
the EOC during emergencies and planned events
- Responsibilities
of other duties as assigned or participation in projects involving the
Department of Emergency Management.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- A
bachelor's degree and 2+ years of experience with emergency management
and/or business continuity programs and systems
- Familiarity
with Smartsheet, VideoScribe and/or other productivity platforms
Proficiency with Microsoft applications.
- Experience
working in a fast-paced and complex environment
- Experience
creating and facilitating emergency exercises
- Ability
and willingness to work irregular and extended hours, including evenings
and weekends, and as needed to assist with incident coordination.
- Adapt
well to workplace and event-related stressors.
- Able
to sit and/or use a computer for extended periods.
- Able
to move about to accomplish tasks on and off campus.
- Hearing
and vision correctable to within normal range
