This message is being forwarded to my friends who are part of Neighborhood Associations, block clubs, neighborhood councils, and so on. I am happy to announce that Community Emergency Response Team Training is back. We have our first class taking place in our Palms area of the city.

I know many of you have members of your team (or maybe even you) who want to take this training. See below and sign up...quickly. Seating is highly limited and I know we will fill up fast.

I am happy to announce that the FIRST IN-PERSON CERT Basic Training Class will be taking place right here in Battalion 18. It's being conducted out the same location where the very LAST in-person class was held prior to COVID-19, the Iman Center in Palms. 

The class will begin on April 7 and continue every THURSDAY NIGHT FROM 630-9P / 1830-2100 Hours. Classes will conclude on May 19, 2022. Please note that the following weekend, a mapping exercise is planned for the Westside Village area which will allow our new graduates to get some time applying their new skills. More is to come on that later. 

Seating in the class is limited as we are still observing social distancing procedures which is a prudent thing. This is a class which has been greatly anticipated for a long time. I ask that previously CERT trained members REFRAIN from signing up for this class. We'd like to leave it for folks especially those coming through our NTP program to take. Previously trained members will have the opportunity as more classes open up down the line. Also, our previously trained members SHOULD be taking advantage of the in-person opportunities such as the monthly pop-ups to sharpen skills. Additionally, PLEASE ONLY SIGN UP FOR THE CLASS IF YOU INTEND TO ATTEND FOR THE FULL DURATION. Again, seating is limited and it is a shame to have seats go empty because folks decided NOT to continue for whatever reason. Just sayin'.

CDPH OFFICE OF HEALTH EQUITY PROGRAM UPDATES   CDPH Office of Health Equity's Gender Health Equity Unit Announces Funding Opportunity   The Gender Health Equity Unit within the Office of Health Equity (OHE) recently released a Request for Applications (RFA) for the LBTQ Health Equity Initiative: Healthcare Access and Community Outreach Program. This initiative seeks to address the well-documented health inequities experienced by LBTQ Californians that result from a range of challenges, including systemic anti-LBTQ bias, lack of culturally responsive care, and lack of medical services and research tailored to lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and queer women as well as transgender men, non-binary, and gender non-conforming persons. Existing inequities and other factors such as higher rates of poverty and homelessness also put LBTQ people at greater vulnerability to climate-related disasters.   Funding will provide an opportunity to administer community-based projects focused on healthcare access and outreach and education for LBTQ communities. CDPH will fund four contracts comprised of a consortia of community-based partner organizations over a two-year period, with awards totaling approximately $1.9 million per contract. The application deadline is April 22, 2022. Questions can be submitted to LBTQInitiative@cdph.ca.gov and official responses to questions and comments will be posted on the Gender Health Equity Unit's Funding Opportunities page. Read the full RFA for LBTQ Health Equity Initiative Healthcare Access and Community Outreach Program   CCHES Bids Farewell to Team Member Dorette Quintana English   In February 2022, long-time CCHES team member Dorette Quintana English retired from CDPH. Dorette served as a Health Planning and Policy Specialist with CCHES and program manager of the CDC-funded California Building Resilience Against Climate Effects (CalBRACE) project. In her nine years at CDPH, Dorette was a tireless advocate for health equity and the wellbeing of Californians, contributing her unique expertise and knowledge to countless policies, programs, and plans aimed at improving health and building resilience to climate change impacts. The CCHES and OHE team thank Dorette for her service and wish her the very best in the next phase of her journey.
