USDA Releases Nationwide Farmer, Rancher and Forest Manager
Prospective Customer Survey

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced a nationwide feedback survey targeting farmers, ranchers, and forest managers. USDA hopes to reach a new audience of prospective customers specifically, those who don’t know about us or have yet to work with us, and those who were unable to participate in the past. Existing USDA customers can also take the survey and provide
valuable feedback.

This vital data collection will assist USDA’s agencies that deliver farm programs, including the Farm Service Agency (FSA), Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and Risk Management Agency (RMA) in learning about way to enhance support and improve programs and services, increase access and advance equity for new and existing customers.

We Need Your Help.

This toolkit is meant for FSA, NRCS and RMA partners and stakeholder groups to easily share and promote information in their networks about the nationwide survey. By sharing the survey in your networks, your vital contribution is aiding government in helping the people that grow our Nation’s food, fiber and fuel. It includes:

Key messages
• Sample email from stakeholder organization to network
• Sample stakeholder organization newsletter article
• Sample stakeholder organization social media posts
• Survey outreach poster to print, post and share

If you have any questions, please contact us at FPAC.BC.Press@usda.gov .

Key Messages
• USDA want all farmers, ranchers and forest managers to take the survey; we hope to specifically hear from prospective customers, so we can learn about their interests and experiences to improve our services and make government agricultural programs more accessible, equitable and easier to use.

• This survey will provide USDA with critical data to inform how we can best meet America’s agricultural needs, now and in the future. Responding to this survey will directly enhance customer experience at FSA, NRCS and RMA. These agencies support farmers, ranchers and forest managers to protect and enhance the natural resources vital to our nation.

Take the survey at...Please visit www.farmers.gov/survey or scan the QR code to the left by March 31, 2023, to access the survey  online in multiple languages! The survey will take approximately 10 minutes to complete, and responses are anonymous.

Recommendations for the 2023 Farm Bill January 16, 2023

Recommendations for the 2023 Farm Bill

NM Healthy Soil's Recommendations for the 2023 Farm Bill, reflecting the collective input shared at several listening sessions:

We are at a make or break moment in history, determining whether we marshal the resources to safeguard the life sustaining capacities of our planet or perpetuate systems in place that are harming the land, human health and the stability of the climate.

We have a remarkable chance right now to set our nation on a course that is restorative and life affirming.

The 2023 Farm Bill is very consequential legislation which
  • impacts nutrition and
  • land management,
  • affecting what we eat,
  • how we grow food and the very
  • make up of our food system as a nation.

We all must decide: do we want a Farm Bill that embraces and fosters life or one that perpetuates our self destruction?

Continuing the status quo and supporting a healthy future for agriculture are not mutually inclusive positions.

We can no longer subsidize the perpetuation of industrial agriculture, which generates intolerable pollution, inequities, insufficient profit to producers and instability in the global food system (during pandemics and/or times of war, inflation and other price or market manipulations).

Rather we must fully invest in the transition to regenerative agriculture and the advancement of soil health.

Regenerative agriculture minimizes pollution by working with nature rather than against it, it honors farmers and ranchers by taking out the middleman and fostering more just earnings and access as well as strengthening the local food system.

Regenerative agriculture prioritizes healthy soil which is key to life flourishing on earth.

UNDRR 'Interactive Feature'. Impact of Disasters, Zero Climate Disasters, COP27, and other areas

View this email in your browser
Dear Friends,

We hope your year is off to a good start. We would like to share with you some updates and offer a look ahead to some big upcoming activities.

Updates:

  • India assumed the G20 Presidency on 1 December 2022 from Indonesia and will convene the G20 Leaders' Summit for the first time in the country in 2023. Under India’s Presidency, a new working group on Disaster Risk Reduction has been established. SRSG Mami Mizutori issued a statement welcoming its creation and committing UNDRR to support it.

  • SRSG Mami Mizutori published an opinion piece to introduce UNDRR’s campaign of ‘Zero Climate Disasters’ to the general public. This is a campaign that aims to build support for increased efforts to prevent hazards from becoming disasters through complementary actions.

  • To highlight “The invisible toll of disasters,” UNDRR launched an interactive feature showcasing the cascading impacts of disasters and the hidden costs of slow-onset and small-scale events.

  • If you ever need to explain what UNDRR is or what we do, we encourage you to make use of our new introductory 1-minute video which explains how we are “a small organization with a big mandate” (TwitterLinkedInYoutube).

  • By the end of 2022, we have seen steady growth in search engine queries on ‘disaster risk reduction,’ with a big uptick starting in 2020. We believe this is the combined result of global crises and the growing realization that DRR holds many of the solutions for achieving sustainable and resilient development.

    Looking ahead:

  • The VIII Regional Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in the Americas and the Caribbean will be held in Punta del Este, Uruguay, from February 28 to March 2, 2023. Those in the region who wish to participate are advised to submit their registration applications by 26 January.

  • At COP27, the UN Secretary-General launched the Executive Action Plan for the Early Warnings for All Initiative and asked that the World Meteorological Organization and UNDRR co-lead an Advisory Board to ensure its effective implementation. Building on this, UNDRR will be organizing with partners a series of regional launches to raise awareness around the need to implement the plan by 2027. The first regional event will be focused on the Caribbean and will be held on 6 February in Barbados.

  • 2023 will mark the midterm point for many international frameworks, including the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, the Water Action Decade, and the Sustainable Development Goals. The findings of the Sendai Framework’s Midterm Review will be presented at a high-level meeting of the UN General Assembly in New York on 18 and 19 May 2023. We encourage member states to ensure the highest levels of representation at the meeting.

  • A special edition of the Global Assessment Report (GAR) is being developed for publication around July 2023. It will be titled “Risk-informing the Sustainable Development Goals:  Metrics and measures to build resilience in a changing climate.”

  • Throughout the year, UNDRR will continue to organize tsunami evacuation walks in different countries as part of our ongoing #GetToHighGround campaign. These walks aim to help communities build their preparedness for early action against the threat of tsunamis.

Thank you for your continued partnership and we wish you all a happy and resilient year
