For the Future of the Next Generation. Time for a Giant Leap

Time to make the change by putting our Ego’s aside.
Time to make the change by accepting different approaches and not just ‘business as usual’.
Time to make the change by not accepting the rule that you need money (it helps) to make the change.
Time to make the change by changing your view for what the future can be.
Time to make the change by communities taking charge of their communities.
Time to make the change by getting involved in local government policy, local government policy feeds federal policy.
Time to make the change by getting involved in homelessness, slavery, and other social issues.
Time to make the change by taking care of mental as well as physical health concerns.
Time to make the change by collaborating, and partnering.
Time to make the change by a slight shift in priorities.
Time to make the change by saying ENOUGH is ENOUGH.

Make the change.

Make the sacrifice.

Change the Paradigm. June 28, 2018. Search for the next permanent Chancellor of DC Public Schools (DCPS).

The leader for change in any system MAY NOT be within the system. 

Someone outside of the system that sees it from a different 21st Century solution perspective.

Ever notice that the same issues and problems arise from those within the system that goes from city to city, jurisdiction to jurisdiction?   A system can become so complex (complex-complex system) that it becomes unmanageable at some point.

CHANGE THE PARADIGM.  Think of a leader outside of the system.  A simple-simple or simple-complex system may be needed.  Just a thought.

Letter from the Mayor

Dear Washingtonians,
Our public schools have come a long way in preparing DC’s next generation for college and career readiness. This past school year, we faced our challenges head-on, and for the first time in reform history, took on the task of reevaluating our graduation standards. Because of all we learned this school year, we are better positioned than ever to take on long-standing challenges in our schools. 
Today, to help us build on our progress, we kicked off the search for the next permanent chancellor of DC Public Schools (DCPS). As we go through this process, the community's thoughts, ideas, and concerns will be essential in helping us make the right choice for our students, our families, and DCPS. 
In the weeks to come, we will host community forums, but we also ask that you submit feedback at ourschools.dc.gov.
Together, we will continue to put students first, focus on equity and excellence, and have the courage to improve.

FEMA Corps accepting application for 2019.  Age requirement 18-24 years


Member Duties : A member of FEMA Corps will be trained in and perform general and specialized tasks in the field of emergency management and disaster recovery. Members will be dedicated to FEMA deployments in areas of logistics, community relations, individual and public assistance, planning, preparedness, and recovery activities. FEMA Corps is a 12 month commitment and members are required to participate fully. Members must be able to serve effectively with a team of individuals from, and in, communities of diverse cultural, ethnic, economic, geographic, and educational backgrounds. Members must be able to communicate, read, and write effectively in the English language with peers, supervisors, staff and others, perform in stressful environments and adverse weather conditions, serve long hours beyond an eight hour workday, live in a communal setting, be flexible to sudden, frequent changes, be drug free and maintain a drug-free environment, and participate in activities that improve personal skills.

Program Benefits : Stipend ,  Training ,  Housing ,  Health Coverage ,  Living Allowance ,  Education award upon successful completion of service ,  Childcare assistance if eligible .

Opportunities: Instructor Development Training Week - October 14th – 20th. Center for Domestic Preparedness.


Exciting training event coming up!!   




The Center for Domestic Preparedness (CDP) will host an INSTRUCTOR DEVELOPMENT THEME WEEK, 14 October – 20 October 2018, on the CDP campus in Anniston, AL. CDP training is completely funded for state, local, tribal and territorial emergency responders to include roundtrip airfare, meals, lodging, training and any equipment required during training.  Select learn more about the Instructor Development Theme Week:   https://cdp.dhs.gov/training/week/theme/trainers

As you may know, the CDP offers Train-the-Trainer courses, which recognizes those who graduate as Indirect Trainers for their home state in accordance with the State/Territory/Tribal Training point of contact directive. The Indirect Training Program (ITP) provides Indirect Trainers with administrative support to deliver the specific course(s) linked to each Train-the-Trainer course. This administrative support is at no cost to trainers nor their organization, and includes student training materials and certificates of completion. Training provided within states and local jurisdictions by state and local trainers is not only a force multiplier but also a critical component in helping to build a culture of preparedness in communities, as this training is delivered by trainers who work and know their community/organizational needs.
