SAN FRANCISCO BLACK FILM FESTIVAL MOVES FORWARD WITH NEW LEADERSHIP

ALL IN THE FAMILY!

San Francisco Black Film Festival Adds New Leaders

and Announces Festival Dates, June 10-13, 2021

San Francisco-Passion for family fuels the San Francisco Black Film Festival legacy as a new generation join the worldwide African Diaspora affirming festival founded by late Arts Impresario, Ave Montague.  After the shocking and unexpected demise of Festival Director Kali O'Ray, Montague's son, last August due to an undetected degenerative heart condition, Cree Ray and Kali Ray Jr., daughter and son of O'Ray will join the San Francisco Black Film Festival as Festival Directors.  The San Francisco Black Film Festival Festival is slated for June 10-13, 2021. Film submissions are now being accepted via https://filmfreeway.com/sfbff.

"In tribute to the love of both our grandmother and father, we are continuing their labor of love of  providing a positive narrative about the African Diaspora

SFBFF Press Conference 6:15:2012 with then Co-Festival Director with wife Katera Crossley, Kali O'Ray listening to accolades from Actor, Write, Producer, Humanitarian Robert Townsend about carrying on his mother Ave Montague's legacy. Townsend said the legacy would be carried on to the next generation. From 2012 to 2021, so it shall be.

both here at home and internationally," said San Francisco Black Festival Director, Cree Ray.  "We will build on this legacy of the San Francisco Black Film Festival, "Healing the World one Film at A Time." It goes beyond family based on our strengths and convictions for truth and balance in media." Ray explained that Festival Director and widow of O'Ray, Katera Crossley will continue in the role she loves, curating all the films that are submitted.  Kali Ray Jr. will orchestrate all of the technical aspects of the festival with Cree Ray managing the overall business aspects of the San Francisco Black Film Festival.

"We appreciate all of our past sponsors, volunteers, and devotees of the San Francisco Black Film Festival that helped us invite the world to San Francisco and to a platform that encouraged dialogue between races to better understand each other," said Kali Ray Jr., San Francisco Black Film Festival Director.  "Building on that platform that heralded justice, equality and equity, we invite our old friends and new ones to help us build on this San Francisco cultural icon for the world that was born in the historic Fillmore District.

With the worldwide Diaspora always a theme of the San Francisco Black Film Festival, Kali O'Ray's leadership in the Coronavirus Pandemic challenging year of 2020, extended to Nigeria and South Africa in what was unknowingly to be O'Ray's last festival directorship.

The San Francisco Black Film Festival virtually opened the door for New York based independent filmmaker Taheim Bryan's "Equal Standard" (https://www.durbanfilmfest.com/film/equal-standard/) at the Durban International Film Festival with a panel discussion that included Tobias Truvillion, Syleena Johnson,  Ice T, Anthony 'Treach' Criss and more directed by Brendan Kyle Cochrane.  The film takes a hard look at both sides of officer involved shootings.

"We are family, a worldwide family as Ave and Kali projected in their heartfelt work through the San Francisco Black Film Festival," said Katera Crossley, San Francisco Black Film Festival Director. "We thank our family of friends such as  the Honorable London Breed,

the Mayor of San Francisco for paying tribute to Kali at a very difficult time. We thank our community friends with African American Arts and Cultural Center for paying tribute and new friends as Regan Baker Designs that shared their event with Chadwick Boseman's "42" honoring Kali  at Fort Mason last October.  Together will continue the great foundational work that Ave began and Kali continued."

Whether the festival will be virtual, live or both has not been determined. For updates and news about the San Francisco Black Film Festival sign up for the newsletter at www.sfbff.org.

columnist Herb Caen's ... dot dot dot before yielding more ink to gracious society columnist Pat Steger who passed the baton to today's features writer Leah Garchik.  In the Black media world it was Rochelle Metcalfe and her "I Heard That" column in the Sun Reporter, Beyond Chron and the San Francisco Bayview Newspaper that gave all the skinny on what was happening among local celebrities in the hood to those who flew in from Hollywood!

News came to W.E. from Community Leader Lynnette White, widow of late San Francisco artist Eugene White, that Ms. Metcalfe had passed on Monday. Community Archivist & Videographer, Johnnie Burrell of International Media TV shared with W.E. a Facebook tribute by KPOO's Harrison Chastang, an accomplished photographer in his own right.

No details of services are available.  For those that would like to send condolences, email them to Lamont Monroe, Ms. Metcalfe's first cousin at outlawII@AOL.COM.

Ms. Rochelle Metcalfe would end her columns with:

"Hey, It's Nice to be nice and to all of you out there...look for me...I'll be there."

"Rochelle we kept putting off our luncheon to "next time," now we'll have to gather at the Marriage Supper of the Lamb."

Condolences to the Metcalfe Family, Friends and Fans.  For all suffering loss at this time be encouraged with the confirmation of eternal life found in the Holy Bible.

New FEMA Administrator — Well, Not So Fast!

Personal indiscretions can come back to haunt you.

BY ERIC HOLDEMAN FEBRUARY 2, 2021

Well, my pick for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) administrator looks to be, "technically speaking," seeing her nomination going down the tube. I expect within hours that we will hear that, unfortunately, Deanne Criswell, the current person to be nominated by President Biden for FEMA''s top post, has withdrawn herself from consideration. Recall that the Biden goal is to have a totally scandal-free administration!

See the story below from a publication I don't recognize (looks to be very anti-Democrat — but, you know, the truth is the truth). The published letter in the story is pretty damning and likely easily collaborated with travel records (if they still have them) plus the personal testimony of the two parties (husband and wife) confirming a previous adulterous affair. The daughter also sounds like someone who could confirm the phone call she overheard.

You know, I really liked my two podcast interviews I did with Deanne. She was well spoken and knew her stuff. Now, I'm wondering if she will even keep her New York City Emergency Management commissioner's job. This is a very high-profile position in NYC.

I learned a big lesson in 1975 when someone told me news I didn't want to believe and I gave a soldier hell (the worst I've ever berated a person) for complaining about his leader — who I respected. Guess what, the soldier was right and I was wrong. If I could find him today (we were standing in the motor pool tool room, 2-41 Infantry, Charlie Company, 2nd Armored Division) — I'd apologize for my behavior. The truth sometimes really hurts.

Here's the article: "EXCLUSIVE: Biden’s FEMA Pick Had Years Long ‘Illicit Affair’ Funded By Taxpayer Dollars, Former Lover Says."

What lesson(s) might you and I learn from all of the above? No, it is not "don't get caught."
