Expanding First Response: A Toolkit for Community Responder Programs

 

Communities across the country are reimagining their approach to public safety. As a result, many jurisdictions have invested in community responder programs that position health professionals and staff trained in crisis response as first responders. Community responder programs, when implemented as part of a larger network of crisis responses and social services, can help jurisdictions improve health outcomes, strengthen connections to services, and reduce unnecessary police involvement.   Released today, Expanding First Response: A Toolkit for Community Responder Programs serves as a central hub for local communities and states looking to establish or strengthen these programs. The toolkit draws on the experiences of early adopter jurisdictions, presenting key issues critical to building a successful program. It will be updated regularly with program highlights and additional resources for the field.
