Food Warriors Youth Development Program Assistant Site Coordinator

This is a 12-month contractual position.  The rate of pay is $15.00 per hour for a maximum of 20 hours per week.

Requirements

Applicants must submit to a State of Michigan and Federal criminal background check.  Must have experience working with children.  Must be able to relate well to youth, teachers, administrators and parents.  Must have some knowledge of the food system, and urban agriculture.  Must have basic knowledge and understanding of African and African-American history and culture. Must have excellent organizational and communication skills. Must be reliable, accountable and a team player.  Must have access to reliable transportation.

Duties
  • Assist DBCFSN’s Education and Outreach Director in facilitating weekly Food Warriors sessions at the two Food Warriors’ sites.
    • Barack Obama Leadership Academy (formerly Timbuktu Academy of Science and Technology)—Mondays & Wednesdays 3:30pm-6:30pm
    • Shrine of the Black Madonna—Saturdays 9:30am-1:00
  • Lead lessons and activities at both sites.
  • Lesson plan development.
  • Assist with garden maintenance at both sites.
  • Keep accurate inventory of tools and equipment at each site.
  • Assist with the building and repair of raised beds at each site.
  • Some moderately heavy lifting may be involved.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Reports to DBCFSN Education and Outreach Director.
