North Star Fund invites applications from grassroots organizations

The North Star Fund envisions a world in which resources and power are equitably shared, and a future where everyone can live with dignity and thrive, and supports grassroots organizing led by communities of color building power in New York City and the Hudson Valley.

The fund invites applications for its grants program, through which the fund supports organizations and programs within the five boroughs of New York City and the Hudson Valley that elevate community-led solutions to problems caused by racism, gender oppression, and greed.

At the March 31, 2025 deadline, grants will be accepted in the following categories:

Hudson Valley Organizing Grants: Grants of up to $20,000 will be awarded to provide long-term support to grassroots groups in the Hudson Valley of New York. Applicants must organize community members within at least one of the following counties: Albany, Columbia, Delaware, Dutchess, Greene, Orange, Putnam, Rensselaer, Rockland, Schoharie, Sullivan, Ulster, or Westchester.

Let Us Breathe Fund Grants: Grants of up to $20,000 will be awarded to Black-led organizations building collective power through grassroots organizing in New York City and the Hudson Valley.

New York City Grants: Grants of up to $20,000 will be awarded as general operating support to grassroots organizations that use organizing as a primary strategy in New York City.

Both new and emerging organizations as well as established movement builders with a track record of success. North Star Fund grants support small organizations, which typically lack access to support from national foundations. Organizational budgets range from $0 to a maximum of $800,000.
