This week, the Department of Parks and Recreation announced extended operations at select outdoor pools and spray parks until September 21, due to expected high temperatures. Previously, all outdoor pools and spray parks were scheduled to close for the season on Labor Day, September 4.
The following outdoor pools will remain open six days a week per their summer operating schedule until Thursday, September 21:

This week, Mayor Bowser joined students and educators to celebrate National Read a Book Day with a visit to Friendship Ideal Elementary and Middle School. During the visit, the Mayor participated in a second-grade story time and encouraged students to take advantage of DC Public Library resources.
The good news: it is never too late to celebrate National Read a Book Day. In fact, September is also National Library Card Sign-Up Month. Anyone who lives, works, pays property taxes or attends school in the District is eligible to get a free library card, without worry of fines or fees.
