Fiction. Strong Black Women. Deep Emotional Trauma Inherited; In DNA. October 2026

History play an important role in shaping the present and the future.  Each are intrinsically linked.

Trauma from crisis\disasters\emergencies, domestic violence, child abuse, human trafficking, social injustices and violence may leave deep emotional scars that many are not even aware of.  But they are there in our everyday life shaping who we are.

Awareness, understanding, and seeking treatment breaks the chain that affects the whole community.

Black women are expected to be strong enough to endure anything. But when they challenge how they're being treated, suddenly they're the problem. That double bind has roots in slavery, and its legacy didn't disappear with emancipation.

Two brilliant Black women civil rights lawyers, Sherry D. Soanes and Sacred B. Huff, helped me understand how deeply this history still shapes the treatment of Black women at work.

Their presentation challenged us as employment lawyers to recognize the coded racism hiding in plain sight. Because how can we fight discrimination if we don't even recognize it?

This history ain't just history.
